Design Methods
Project 1: Paper Airplane
In this project, we focused on the design process and "making it work". We had to make paper airplanes so that when dropped by the tail, they would level out and fly a good distance.

Project 2: Syntax and Semantics
Part A: Syntax
For the first part of the assignment, we found a picture of a common item, cropped it to focus on an interesting part, and altered the color. We then made a pattern using this image in InDesign.
Part B: Semantics
Next, we learned the meaning of semantics by finding images and associating the image with a word that normally wouldn't go with the image.
Project 3: Black Box Manual
For this project, we were to create a manual that had no letters or numbers. We had to direct the reader to follow a certain procedure a black box created by our teachers. The point was to try and convey a message without outright saying it. We then tested this on students during lunchtime. I am happy to say that the student who tested mine got all five right!

Project 4: Expressive Mark
Here, we learned about applying composition, texture, and form to an emotional meaning. We began by simply making expressive marks with black paint. Then, we tried many different compositions of a single refined mark on a page, paired with a word that reflects the mark.

Project 5: Emblem Design
In this project, we were to 1: pair a letter with a simple shape, and 2: pair three shapes of our choice. While the designs work ok, there are a few changes I would make. I would also wish to explore different pairings more, as well as work on my refinement and visibility at a small size.

Project 6: Creative Brief
This is my first time writing a Creative Brief.

Project 7: Book Cover Design
I designed a book cover for the (not real) book, "The Future of Botany". In the next project, I revised the final book cover.

Project 8: Design a System of Materials
Here is my first go at designing a system of materials to assist the book cover. Featured is the book cover (revised), along with a tour poster, post card, book mark, and website homepage.
